rattle between 5.5 and 6000rpm
alri lads how is everyone ,this is my bikes new problem and its wrecking me head as it is a strange 1 ...driving along at the above revs in any gear and i can here this rattle and when im above or below this rev speed the bikes sounds fine the ratte is gone,,the easyiest way to describe this sound would be describing it as like having the key in the ignition with a couple of keys on the key ring fluttering vibrating off the slab when you go over a few bumps, and if i pull in the cutch when it rattles the rattle stops,,,the bike is driving fine as it is but the rattle is causing me concern as i dont know wot it is or wot is causing it to rattle and i dont want to f*** upthe engine as i use the bike everyday,,has this happened anyones elses bike im asking and if it has can ye tell me wot it is ta for looking bakey

No way to be certain but that discription would lead me to think your camchain is making that noise.

Re: rattle between 5.5 and 6000rpm
alri cargo,,if it was the cam chain wouldnt it be making the noise all the time, would it increase and decrease with the revs ??and well tk ,,the clutch bearing would that be the same as the thrust bearing as i was describing it to a bike mechanic earlier and he was sayin that that was wot was it sounded like thrust bearing on the way out,he was sayin it goes in the kawacks and the hondas,

does it rattle on tickover and disappear when you pull the clutch in?

Re: rattle between 5.5 and 6000rpm
sorry cargo im not the best at describing tings(chronic weed problem hence the name bakey as im always baked:) ) and i had a typo error in my previous msg and didnt mean to come across a smart butt, all i ment to ask was if it was the cam chain wouldnt i be able to hear it the whole time with the revs and not just inbetween 5.5 and 6000 revs, and masterofinsanity asked me if it ratteled at tick over wich it dose as the bike has a rattly clutch and it stops when i pull in the clutch but this rattle sounds completely different to the clutch rattle, its not a loud rattle but u can here it and its only there between 5.5 and 6000 revs and when driving along at those revs in any gear you can here it and if i pull in the clutch when it makes that noise at those revs it stops,it could be a cam chain rattle but i wouldnt know as im new to 4strokes and more familar to 2strokes,and i just asked here in case some 1 else had encountered this problem before and might have some helpful info on it

Re: rattle between 5.5 and 6000rpm
Last year I fixed two ZXRs with broken cam chain tensioners.................and slack/noisy camchains................
The noise was preicesly as you describe........................fine at tick over and nothing untill about 5K by 6K the noise was very clear to hear over 6K it was gone.
Many zxrs have a clutch rattle it is normally there at tick over and if you pull the lever the noise goes away....................I've never heard that noise at any speed while actually moving.
Now identifying noises via a forum message is impossible...................all I'm telling you is that your noise seems to me to be very much like a camchain rattle............if you lived near I'd come and listen to it...................

Re: rattle between 5.5 and 6000rpm
I had this exact problem as well, rattle at 5,500 - 6000rpm. Was certain it was the cam-chain and almost splashed out for one. a mate of mine did the shims while I was away and when I came back the noise was gone. Except now it only rattled with the clutch. I tightened the clutch basket and hey-presto the noise was gone.
