iam sure most of you know that my zxr has been spluttering around 5000rpm for a few weeks now ive tried a few things and had to strip the carbs down again id only done 80 miles since striping last time. i took all the jets, filters, floats out this time tho and got a lot of orange powder out the filters and float bowls i used cotton buds (ear ones lol) on all the tight places i couldnt get to and used a small artist brush as well for the float bowls and then removed the inlet rubbers cleand them up and resealed with instant gasket
i then drained the fuel tank i didnt really want to as i didnt think it would do much having put £15 in the bike since rebuilding it but empyed it any way. i then removed the petrol tap and found rust around the base of the tap and the bolts holding the tap in had a lot of the red powderd rust on them so all that was cleaned up and then i started to put a 100ml of petrol in the tank and swirled it round and emptyed it through the holes where the tap fitted into a buket and the rust and gunk stared to come out i did this a few times till i was happy most of it had gone.
i then filled the tank with tescos super unleded 99 octane rebult the bike went out did about 15 miles and it didnt miss a beat no spluttering at all :excited :excited iam well happy now and i didnt have to pay the dyno man £50 an hour to sort it out :pmsl

very pleased to hear it kev! I suspect the gunk was perhaps old fuel from having sat in there for some time when the bike wasnt used?

i think so the tank sat in the corner of my shed for a good 5 months its only one of them argos tin sheds so it does get damp in there i can rember when we had all that snow and the temp was really low the amount of condensation that was on the out side of the tank was nuts so god knows what it was like in side the tank ?
