is there any point?

This bike I bought turns out to have variable cams, but a standard ignition and rotor, so I'm thinking that if the cams are adjusted as in the kit manual they won't actually do any good as the ignition hasn't been advanced to suit them.

Or is that not how they work?? and the manual doesn't seem very clear about setting them up if you set the engine to tdc with the cam markings level with the top of the head is that when you rotate the cams to get the advance????

I've got to have this all sorted by the 15th of march btw.
