Re: cam chain noise
welcome to the forum westy.
It may just be the tensioner blade thats worn. Im not sure about the tensioner blade, but a new cam chain is 20ish quid. So may be worth replacing that while youve got it all out.

Re: cam chain noise
take the chain off and see if its worn. best to just replace the lot. much cheaper than bending valves!

Did you get the valve clearances checked while he was doing the cam chain?

he charged me bout £100 to fit the tensioner. i could of done that but he didnt tell me he hadnt fitted the cam chain untill i turned up to pick the bike up, because i had asked him to do both. so you reckon i mite need the chain as well? which is what i thought.

Re: cam chain noise
£100 to remove and fit a new cam chain tensioner ! ! ! !
Day light robbery
Take a look and see if the tensioner is at full extension if it is then you need a new chain IMHO either that or the tensioner blade is broken /damaged
I also have to be concerned if your new tensioner has been correctly fitted

Re: cam chain noise
The tensioner blade is the bit that actually pushes against the chain and is connected to the cam chain tensioner

Re: cam chain noise
hi been a while since i asked about my cam chain but finally got round to getting another mechanic to fit a new cam chain for me. so my bike has had a new cam chain and a new cam chain tensioner fitted now, but my bike is still making a rattle/slapping noise at about 6000rpm on the over run. i took the pickup cover off today and the tensioner is probably about halfway so that problem appers to be fixed but has no cured my rattle. any suggestions on what else could be causing the noise greatly appreciated. cheers james

Re: cam chain noise
Hey I had a rattle at 6,000 as well. I thought it was my cam-chian/tens. Took it to my bike guy and he thought they we're both fine. I then did my shims, and the noise was gone.
I would check your clearences
