Don't Use Internet Explorer!!!

Post by Jamz »

I've just been very strongly advised to stop using Internet Explorer to browse the web. I'm not sure if this will be old news to you, but you might want to read this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7784908.stm

Basically there's some huge security flaw that Microsoft have admitted themselves, that means if you use it there's a damn good chance someone can get all your passwords and details from anything you browse using Explorer.

Official advise is to switch to something else - I've just grudgingly downloaded Firefox: Image and have to say it's exactly the same - only faster!

Get it done.

I've always had something against the alternative browsers - no reason for it, I just never saw a good enough reason to make me want to switch from IE.

After a few hours I haven't found any reason why i'd ever want IE back again. :smt017

It's exactly the same, just faster! :smt001

Actually, i might give Opera a go on my laptop when I get home to see if that's an improvement on Firefox. i might as well!

No, it seems like Microsoft themselves released it, and don't really know what to say to stop everyone using other browsers! Huge fk-up on their part here, but it could happen to Firefox or any of the others tomorrow.

Right, as your Forum Guinea Pig, I had no problems with Firefox at work.

I've just got home and installed Opera. It seems ok excpet for one major thing that's a right cock-nose - you can't import all your favourites from IE! Firefox gave the option to do it during the install and then you can do it at any time afterwards, too.

Looks-wise there's not much difference.

Another vote for firefox, all the add ons make internet browsing much more fun i you haven't had a look at the extras then you should, people have even gone to the time to make forum browsing more adjustable, colours can be changed, useless info can be removed, more smilies can be added.... the list goes on and on!

I tried Google Chrome last night as well.

It's better than Opera in that it imports your favourites, but actually adding to favourites is so fiddly it's not worth the effort for something so simple.

Firefox is now at work and at home, and they're doing just fine.

Firefox is the daddy of all browsers, and is actually CSS 2.1 complaint (Unlike the M$ IE7/8)

Maybe this will end the whole IE dominance, and give Firefox the majority market share that they so damn well deserve. :excited

Now lets just try the same thing to happen with Vista .... Everybody will end up on Ubuntu / Mandriva :tease

Haven't used IE for years. I was going to say, Jamz, simply experimenting with FFox or Opera will produce the result that you can find no positives that IE has over FFox, and you probably just won't go back. IE has fecked me off for years, same with Media Player, and slowly but surely most of my applications have been switching from Microsoft to others...
