what are your experiences of AMS? iv seen that they do engines from £300 is this a decent price and will the engine be any good from them? (i know it depends on the specific engine but can they be trusted to supply good parts ect)
also how easy is it to do an engine conversion your self and if i got a garage to do it what should i expect to pay?

Buying a second hand engine can be a bit of a lottery, so check they've had it running.
AMS should give a 7 day guarentee or something, I would have thought - so make sure you take delivery then get it in the bike ASAP so if it is knackered you can send it back.
Changing engines is pretty damn easy as I found out recently. Most of the work you'll do is cleaning and taking bits off, and other than that it's just a case of unbolting the engine, disconnecting about 6 wires in the loom, then bolting the new one in and plugging the wires back in!
Get someone to help who knows a little about what they're doing, and allow a nice relaxed weekend. It took me about 20 hours total but a lot of that was pissing about and learning about stuff along the way (valve shims etc) - if I did it again I could easily do it in half that time.
It's well worth it because it'll cost you the price of the engine plus maybe a gasket or two and a couple of new bolts to replace the worn/broken ones you'll find. A garage will charge probably £500-£1000 even using the engine you sourced, I should imagine.
