the other H1 !
picked this up yesterday,
zxr400 H1
99% complete, but in bits ..
basically standard but for the bits listed below
stainless headers (copy of stock system)
stainless oval race can (badly bodged on)
PFM floating front brake discs (need rebuilding though, most of the springs are missing, might not even be straight)
braided lines (not exactly nice ones though)
GRP nosecone (seems quality though, and is sprayed up nice)
tinted screen (as always, lol)
under-tray hacked about (was intended as track bike)
came as a rolling chassis, panels not attached, carbs off, seized clutch cable
also came with a set of front calipers and discs in V good condition all ready to fit, and 2 sets of carbs, (one of which appear to be H SP and have adjustable needles with a funny profile and #92 dynojet jets), oh and a new clutch cable. and a spare tank (needs painting to match)
the bad,
its V manky
the rear shock is fecked
no battery
no air filter
bit of an unknown quantity, although i trust the vendor's word.
tyres are fecked
chain and sprockets are fecked
the good
should clean up ok
found a battery
the PFM discs will count as a bit of a find IF they are salvageable
the front forks are in really good condition (possibly just refurbed?)
all chassis bearings hold up to initial scrutiny
not quite sure what i'll be doing with this one, it might be a track bike for Emma, or it might get tidied up and sold on
so far so good though, tidied up the wiring, fitted a battery, fitted the sp carbs, checked the clutch over, checked the camchain and tensioner, fitted new clutch cable, rigged up temporary petrol tank ..
click, whir whir whir .. nothing ...
span it over for AGES
eventually it fired up, and .. um its smooth, no clacky tappy nasty noises.. and the exhaust sounds fit
but the carbs are pissing fuel everywhere, the float valves arent sealing cos they've been sat dry for so long ..
proper pic's in a bit, but here's some the seller provided for now ..

Re: the other H1 !
thats the badger ..
it now runs sweet too ..
the 0-rings that seal the float valve holder to the carb body were perished.. swapped some in out of a junk set of carbs, and its all good.
this was in the "replacement" carbs .. havent checked the originals..
next job is to resurrect the intake trumpets, as they are misshapen and rock hard, then i can put an airbox on it
weirdly both sets of carbs are 32mm and have the recess for the heaters.. but neither set have the extra tab on the float bowls for the heaters to secure to.
the one's i previously thought were H-sp carbs cant be as H's never had the heaters .. but differ from the others in that the part of the needle jet holder that visible from inside the carb throat has a cut-away edge, which none of my other carbs do.
so logic says they are UK spec L carbs, with H float bowls, and the heaters themselves have gone AWOL at some point in the last 19 years.
f*** knows .. still, means Emma's bike will be getting some heated and 32mm carbs once ive swapped some bits over.. finally

Re: the other H1 !
tis a state mate..
it was left outside for over a year, and doesnt look like it had much love before then.
pretty much decided that i'l throw all the trick/race bits at this one, and keep the black one as a road bike for the time being, until the 600 is done.
currently,
exhaust off
front end off
headlights removed
race bodywork almost fitted
un-rusty tank fitted with tap/cap and fitted to bike
need to get the shock out and cleaned up to see if its salvageable.. The reservoir looks diff to my other H1, and there's a schrader valve in the end .. does this mean its aftermarket/re-gassable ? it has a pro-flex(?) sticker on it but im ignoring that.

Re: the other H1 !
forgot about this thread ...
this bike has now been completely rebuilt and sold to a mate in Bristol.
stripped it to a bare frame, dunked in acid, everything re-painted, all new chassis bearings, new chain and sprockets, new tyres, rebuilt fork's, L model rear shock (re-furbished) new brake discs, braided brake lines, pipercross air filter, full micron exhaust.
fitted it with a black screen and the met black panels that came on what is now my racebike
looked quite smart
will try to get some pics

Will came up from Bristol the other day and i remembered to get some pics while he was here, its looking a bit tatty again after about 9 months use and 3000 ish miles.. but nothing a good clean wont sort.
topend came apart in the autumn to correct the valve clearances following a hot starting problem (well tight) and its been running sweet again ever since.. oh except when a balance pipe fell off the intake .. lol
