Rev Limiter
Right, i have a L1 bike with a L3 engine, god knows which wiring loom it has, It has a blue stickered CDI with part number 21119-1331 L on it. MPH speedo. Problem is the thing still wont rev out past 10K. Ive bought a derestrictor box but cant see where it plugs into. Am i over looking something simple, carbs were balanced just cant seem to get her to rev out to 14K.
p.s has anyone got a green tank they want to swop or sell me for the L model.

Re: Rev Limiter
that looks nice mate, have you checked that its not restricted under the carbs? although i think it would still think it would rev over 10k if it was, someone on here also has the blue igniter box and that limits to 10k so i would look at changing that although others like me have the same box and revs over 10k
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Re: Rev Limiter
the de-restrictor plugs in by the clocks, it replaces the speedo on the loom.

Re: Rev Limiter
If you have a restricted bike [ non uk model] and you remove the speedo then yes you will be limited to about10K revs.
What happens is that the ignition gets no signal from the speedo so it goes into default........it thinks you are trying to derestrict it by removing the speedo.
The solution [what I did]................replace the speedo but leave out the cable drive and it'll rev normally with no restriction.........but thats not really any use for a road bike cos you do need a speedo.
or
You can get little plug in boxes that plug into the small black connector that connects the speedo into the loom. This stops the speedo from telling the ignition from knowing what speed you are doing and so it will revs out past 110mph
or
Replace the ignition black box with a UK one
or
take the speedo apart and you can bend the little contact that tells the ignition you are at 110mph out of the way so that it never sends that message.
I think that covers it

kph - mph converter box works too, you'll never do 180mph, so the restriction doesn't cut in.

Re: Rev Limiter
on a more sensible note,
if its a track bike and you dont want to A) spend money, B) have a gert big hefty speedo fitted..
twat f*** out of the speedo, extract the restrictor circuit from the pile of broken bits, plug it into the loom and wrap it all up watertight, then cable tie it outta the way.
