Carbs Dynojet

Post by MillaMeter »

Hi again.

My bike doesn't rev above 6000rpm due to a recent K&N filter. Now I know the bike needs rejetting which I'm hoping will solve this problem and also make the bike run like a toad of a shovel. (Stage 1 bought today)
What I don't get is when I bought the bike, the guy said it has a stage 1 fitted :smt017

Anyway...
When I took my carbs apart for the first time back in December, I noticed in the 1st float bowl there was some red hard looking plastic sitting right at the bottom blocking the drainage screw. Thinking nothing of it, I cleaned it all out and put it back together. I took the carbs apart again today only to find the same crap sitting at the bottom! I'm really puzzled now because where the hell would red looking plastic come from inside the carbs? I took the floats off and there was no missing plastic missing off that so that was a relief. I also noticed that carb #2 pilot screw was bunged up with something (body filler? cement?), maybe to prevent other people tampering with it from its last dyno run? I dug it out to make sure there was a pilot screw underneath, which there was thank God. I also looked up in the manual on pilot screws and it says 1 5/8 turns (for my model that is) but when I went to check, all the screws are at exactly 3 turns! While the float bowls where off, I decided to check what the jets are set at, guess what... all jets are still standard 90s, all the needles are standard too.

The bike has a aftermarket exhaust which was fitted when I bought the bike, surely that would f*** up the mixture right?
WTF is going on with this bike?

the only thing close to red plasic in the carbs is the orange floats! maybe the previous guy was instant gasket crazy (it happens)
either way sounds like the carbs want cleaning and check the float heights while your at it as for dyno jet kit you get 92 and 96 jets i think so you will be best with 96 if you have an exhaust as well then i think the mixture screws are 2 turns out (for best resuts a rollin road set up big difference) also check the air box for gasket gue while your at it!

Thanks for the reply!

The red plastic looking stuff only seems to be in carb 1, so I stripped carb 1 and the float is still intact, no chips or chunks missing so that's all good. I cleaned the carbs today with some freash petrol and a toohbrush and the colour of the petrol after I finished cleaning was jet black!

Reading the manual last night it says standard main jets are #95 but mine are #90s :smt017
When I get the dynojet ket, will 96 jets really make that much of a difference?

Thanks
