The battery is very clean, it's only a month old.

I'm running out of ideas. A while ago the CDI blew so I bought 1 off Egay but I'm now starting to think maybe that 1 is faulty too. Maybe you could lend me a CDI for a min to check weither it solves the rev counter problem?

Thanks.

I wonder was your rev counter fine before you replaced the CDI ?

What exactly do you mean by "the CDI blew" ?

Did you have the old CDI tested ?

Has you rev counter ever worked properly ?

How do you know the "new" CDI is the exact and correct one for your bike?

Have you considered the possibility that the rev counter is faulty?

Have you allowed the battery to go flat and then tried to recharge it with a normal car battery charger?

What voltage reading are you getting from the battery

Are all you electricial connections clean and dry ?

Is your bike an import has someone been trying to deristrict it?

Is your bike an import and you've got a UK CDI

Is you bike a UK model and you've got an import CDI

If it has not run properly since you bought it what else have you been doing to it to try and fix it that you've not told us about ?

And if it was not running right since you bought it did you try asking the seller what the problem is ?

No problem, it gives me something to think about hehe.

What exactly do you mean by "the CDI blew" ? it blew up?

Did you have the old CDI tested ? Yes = Faulty Tested with a meter and manual. Some readings were way off scale and when the CDI was plugged in, the bike would only fire on 2 cylinders making the bike sound like a Hardly Movason running on water.

Has you rev counter ever worked properly ? Yes

How do you know the "new" CDI is the exact and correct one for your bike? I don't know, when I bought it from Egay, the listing said it came off a ZXR400 L2 (same as mine) so I guess it's the right 1. I thought it doesn't matter between UK and import?

Have you considered the possibility that the rev counter is faulty? I don't know to be honest, I tested it like how the manual said and it works fine. Just giving false readings

Have you allowed the battery to go flat and then tried to recharge it with a normal car battery charger? No, I went out and bought a brand new 1 for £45 from a local bike shop.

What voltage reading are you getting from the battery ? 12 dead on

Are all you electricial connections clean and dry ? Yes, I stipped them last weekend and sprayed all connections plugs with electrical cleaner.

Is your bike an import has someone been trying to deristrict it? As far as I know it's an import, there are signs of deristrictions. Rev counter is deretricted and a cable has been cut at the fusebox?

Is your bike an import and you've got a UK CDI ? No idea, I think it is.

Is you bike a UK model and you've got an import CDI ? No idea, doubt it.

If it has not run properly since you bought it what else have you been doing to it to try and fix it that you've not told us about ?

And if it was not running right since you bought it did you try asking the seller what the problem is ? Well when I bought the bike it was running perfect apart from it not sounding right due to crap plugs. So I replaced those and the ran like a 600cc! Almost threw me off the back at 1 point biggrin

The only things I have changed electrical is the plugs, CDI and a 15amp fuse (main beam headlight) oh and I ripped out the crappy £30 Egay alarm that was fitted when I got her.

Thanks

Richard.

Ok, I found my old battery that came with the bike when I bought it and is now on charge as it was pretty much flat when i bought the bike hence the new battery. Now once this battery is charged, I'll hook it up and if it still doesn't solve my bike problems, where do I go from there? Only I'm getting seriously pissed off with the bike and I'm getting closer and closer to selling her each day.

Thanks
Richard

Yeah the rev counter was working perfect. It was even running perfect when I installed the new battery and CDI.
It all happened just 1 freezing cold morning at my girls house heading for home. Soon as I hit the A41 the rev counter went all mental. I've disconnected all of the junction connectors and cleaned with electrical cleaner but still no good.

I'm starting to wonder, could it be my pick up that's knackered?

Thanks

Update!

Now that my old battery is fully charged, I went down to the garage and fitted it in no time, but guess what? rev counter still reading false. There's only 2 things I can think of now and that would be the pick up or the rev counter itself.

If anyone has a spare rev counter they could lend me that would be awesome.

Thanks

Richard

Right i see now!

Yeah it looks like it could be the rev counter, or the pickup. You checked the connector block for the pickup?

That's very nice of you rover, thank you very much :)

By the way money was sent today.

I had the bike in bits today and checked the pickup making sure all cables are connected and no corrosion has appeared which all seems to be ok.
I have cleaned all block connectors but I'll check that 1 again tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

If the rev counter doesn't solve the problem, I'm gonna cry :smt010
