help engine rebuild

Post by dickie210 »

hi bought my first zxr400 h model 1989 i bought it off of a bloke who didnt put any anti freeze in it and it froze up last winter. i do now my way around engines normal car engines, i have stripped the engine down the head is fine so is the bottom end but the alloy casing that holds the bores is cracked all over the place. so my question is will the barrells and pistons from a 2002 zxr 400 fit on this engine is there any differences cheers for any help

Not 100% on that one, my guess is they might. Dont see seperate bores going very often so might be worth just buying a whole running engine and save alot of hassle perhaps?

give the guy at http://www.ams-motorsport.co.uk/ a mail he should be able to sort you out :smt001

I know they did do minor engine changes to the newer engines, but don't know what to be honest, would be good to know if anyone knows, would think that the barrels are the same and probley the pistons, as they are the same engine displacement, my only doubt would be if they changed the con rod and the little end dia and therefore the pistons would be different? but i do know the h and l models have differnet numbers on the rods, when mine dropped a valve on a h engine i swapped the rods pistons barrel from an old L and was fine, can you measure your barrels and ask the seller to measure his ? oh er missus Stu
