Buying a bike

Would you buy a bike thats on insurance register eg cat c/d,repaired on not and use it on the road again ?

Depends on the damage really, if you can economicaly repair it for the price, or less than the price, of a bike that hasnt been written off then no reason why not.

its ok to buy one but i sold a car a few years ago on a cat D and the new owner couldn't get a log book for it until it had a vosa report done so bear that in mind.

emma's ZX4 has been written off twice this year as a cat D, both times sustaining only light cosmetic damage.. infact it hasnt even been repaired yet, i just gaffa taped over the dodgy bit of fairing and bent the bracket straight again .. so no being a cat d/c write off wouldnt deter me at all if i wanted the bike, as they can be written off for really silly things like .. oooh a cracked screen and it needs a re-spray..

I remember they wrote off my GPX250, for pretty much scratched fairings, was bloody ridiculous, got a new foot rest, straightened the forks and was around on it a few days later.

i would check with the seller if it has a vosa report done b4 i bought it and/or if it needed one.

lol, actually it was reversed into in a carpark, then reversed into by someone reversing down a single track road .. she doesnt seem to fall off much despite scaring the toad outta me every time we go out for a ride together.

so, yeh, twice written off on other peoples insurance .. which was nice. we've had more ££ off them than it cost to buy 4 years ago

Apparently, if you still have the V5 a Cat C/D write off just needs an MOT to get it back on the road - unlike cars which need the engineers report (which is cheap and quick as they basically check it's not going to explode/implode).

People have a fear of anything that's been written off, but especially with bikes it's unfounded.

Cat D is just cosmetic that would cost more than about 40% of the bikes value to return to it's NEW condition... Cat C is uneconomical repair. B and A are where your frame will be bent and it's basically fecked.

From what I hear, most insurance companies won't care about Cat C or D.

My VFR was Cat C because of one break in the fairing and the ignition barrel and petrol tank cap being drilled. Which takes about 20 minutes to get back to new, but the OE parts are a few hundred squid. They cost me under £50 from Ebay.

Now I know this, a lot of the Cat C bikes I see are looking very attractive. There are quite a few R1's etc with top fairing damage, but with the ammount of parts on Ebay they could be a real bargain!
