Gearbox
Brought a ZXR on saturday. I'm having problems with 1st and 2nd gear.
When I put it into gear its making a real loud clanking noise. Ive put new oil in the gearbox and adjusted the clutch cable but its still the same.
Ant ideas on what it could be? Just hope I haven't brought a nail !
Thanks

Re: Gearbox
Hi there, has the bike been standing for a long time? I bought a bike once before that had been standing for a long time which did the same thing. Turned out it was the clutches plates stuck together slightly. After a few hundred miles they should loosen up. Cant thi.nk of any other reason why they wouldnt disengage properly

Re: Gearbox
sounds like the gear box has dryed up, have you taken it for a ride yet? if you've got a leak make sure the oil level is correct.
Also is the noise repetative of just when you first put it into gear?

Re: Gearbox
I have put new gear box oil in, tightened the chain, adjusted the clutch cable but it's still the same.
I ride it to and from work so it's covered over 100 miles already, but it's still the same.
I fixed the leak it was just the washer on the drainage bolt.
thanks

Re: Gearbox
Took it to the garage found out that the clutch had gone so needed new clutch fitted. He said it was what was causing the problem... I hope.

Re: Gearbox
got to have some other stuff done as well. the guy who is doing it for me was my instructor. So I took the bike down to him and let him have a look and he said that the clutch had definatley gone and the cam chain needs adjusting. Also the steering lock dont work . So best to let someone do it who knows what their doing cause i'l probley end up doing more damage!!
