Swapping uk clocks onto jap bike

Post by sic1181 »

Ello ppl, i have had normal kmph clocks with rev booster on my bike and have just swapped them for uk clocks. There is nowhere to fit the rev booster on the new clocks so was just wonderin if my bike is now gunna be restricted? Or if u dont need the booster on uk clocks, or if there is a way of de-restricted the bike with uk clocks on it? I dont know if it will be restricted cos my bike isnt quite ready for the road as yet. Anyone else swapped there clocks?
Any help will be much appreciated, cheers. Sic.

I have just put a UK clock onto my bike. Also found that there is a cable with nothing at the end of it. The bike is off the road due to a crash but if no one else posts I will let you know if it made a difference to my bike. Hopefully in the next few weeks!!!!

What is the rev booster you have exactly? If its the little black box leave it plugged in mate. theres a wire that plugs into the back of the kmh speedo from the loom, the speedo needs to be replaced with a black box if you disconnect the clock. Otherwise i believe you will be restricted to 10Krpm. Im currently working on a derestrictor and i think i have the solution now i just gotta get a working derestrictor going and test it :smt001

my 400 had no black box's on the eaither set of clocks i fited and it would do 140 so im sure that the UK model was never restricted

Its was only the imported 400's from japan that were restricted, all UK bikes max out to 145 :smt001

yeah my kmph clocks had the lil black rev booster u plugged into back of speedo, just put uk speedo on and there isnt anywhere to plug it into so will my bike now be deristricted with it having uk clocks on. speedo goes up to 160mph where as the kmph speedo only goes up to 120mph

Should be fine mate, where the kmh clocks plug into the loom thats where your black box should plug into, not the clock itself. Long as thats plugged in it should max out mate :)

I swapped the jap clocks on my bike for a UK one - straight swap and no black box plugged into my new speedo.
I certainly wasnt restricted to 10,000rpm!

Well the speedo drive broke :P so I put on a digital speedo from Halfords, I calculated the circumference of the tyre - so the speed I saw was a true speed, not some ego inflating manufacturers speed :P
I saw 118mph on the clocks up Kesselchen (Nurburgring) before I bottled it :P Which wouold probably equate to 130ish on a conventional speedo

will let u know if it is not wen i get on road lol. the lil black rev booster doesnt go on the loom it goes on a cable coming from the rev counter to the speedo on jap clocks but that same wire isnt there from speedo to rev counter on uk clocks, i swapped the job lot, speedo, tacho n temp gauge, cos u cant interchange.
Anywho will let u know when i have taken her for a speed test approx 5 mins after she is back on the road lol.

afaik the de-restriction box will still need to be plugged into the bike or the cdi will think the clocks are disconnected and limit to 10k rpm

a uk spec cdi will sort this if there's nowhere to plug the derestrictor in.

zimm you are right mate, when you plug in the derestrictor, the voltage level on the out pin of it drops telling the CDI it is connected. When you get to 110mph the tag inside of the restrictor cuts a photo transistor and the voltage on the put pin goes up telling the CDI its reached top speed limiting you. If you disconnect it, its the same as the limiter kicking in.

The little black box plugs into the loom mate, im 100% certain of that cos its where mine is plugged in and, what good is it when you disconnect the clock from the loom and then plug the black box into the speedo? Absolutley no good at all.

i can tell u for free that there aint nowhere to plug em into on the uk clocks, lol. am gunna post some pics of where the booster plugs into on teh jap clocks, cos where u plug it in leads into either back of the rev counter or speedo, and there aint the same cable on the uk clocks.
