Facebook or myspace

Who has it? What do you think of it? Discuss.

Girlfriend keeps bugging me about getting an account, and to be honest I cant be arsed! Here's why:

All i get is 'you can stay in touch with all your school friends'. Now, if i wanted to stay in touch with my school friends i would have. As it happens they were all a bunch of loosers, who are all now wasting it working at the local Summerfield, Wilkinsons, Sita or Medway Council sweeping the roads. Now im not knocking these jobs cos a job is a job and it earns you money, if your happy in it fair enough. But for people who used to take the piss out of me for being a bit thick at school are now laughing on the otherside of thier fucking face with me at university and them in thier dead end jobs just about scraping 15k a year. And why do I get the feeling they would only talk to you cos 'you know them from school'.

Well ok then she says 'how about your current friends'. I stay in touch with them anyway, and if they were good friends we wouldnt need such a thing as a facebook to keep in touch. Ill be honest, i have only a few people i would really call friends, cos they are the ones that have made the effort to stay in touch, dont ring you up when they want something, but to see how you are cos they like you for who you are and not what you can do for them.

Am i right or what?

So, do i need a facebook account? i think not! If i dont look for them, they may look for me, and the only time i want them to see me is when im on TV and im fucking famous!

another crap idea to use the internet, same as WAYN & BEBO (i do have a BEBO account but never use it, only when someone trys to add themselves to my account, tend not to use MSN too much either, too much grief and i spend too much time on the internet as it is. D

Don't bother RobB. use friendsreunited if anything.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

i've recently been bullied into signing up.

it's better than myspace/bebo etc, if for no other reason than 99% of people are signed up with their real names, so you can actually find people.

as with all these things, it can be a useful way of staying in touch, but you need a bit of perspective. i always thought the point of it was that you used it to arrange to meet up and go to the pub - but my work colleagues seem to do the opposite, go to the pub and then spend the whole time talking about facebook!

friendsreunited is a load of shite imo.

I had a look at a few of these types of sites about 18 months ago, and decided that MySpace looked like the best out of the lot.

It's huge in the US, with some top bloggers getting their own TV slots and stuff, and for the bands nothing else comes close!

It's not as big over here yet, apart from the bands section, but it will be. I noticed the news showed the MySpace page of the Ipswich Prostitute Strangler when they caught him! :smt003

My blogs are making the top ten regularly, and I thought it was a good idea to sign up to another site to 'back up' my blogs, and so signed up for Facebook last week. :smt012

What a load of toad! It's nowhere near as user friendly as MySpace, and just irritated me! :smt013 They can shove it up their arses, as far as I'm concerned!

Anything you can do on Facebook, you can do on MySpace much easier and it's got more members. You can add your schools and workplaces and stuff and blah blah blah.

Facebook is a bunch of butt. :smt019

i still dont see why every man and his dog needs a web page containing their fashionable secrets and most favouritest bestest song in the world.

i dont like blogs either tbh, i just dont care enough about anyone else to be interested in their rather mundane, boring and manically depressive lives.

Jamz your an exception tho, some of your stuff is hilarious.

For the E-hugz naturally. So they can pick on the depressing bits of YOUR life and tell you how theirs is far far worse.

Soon there will be no chatting up of the ladies in the pub it'll just be an exchange of cards with each others myspace addresses so you can go and see how sad each other are.

LOL thanks, but I'm really not the exception at all!

I suppose it's like good music... if you're into Death Metal, 90% of the stuff out there is toad, but a few of those last 10% are awesome!

Blogs are the same, and everyone has different tastes.

I write a few of the 'what I did today' type blogs because some people are genuinely interested in that (after all, look at the success of Big Brother), but generally I like to read rants and stuff that makes me think, or pisses me off, or inspires me in some way!

Or makes me spit my water over my keyboard and have to explain to New Monkey what is amusing me so much about AG Barr's automation software! :smt003

Never got into the Blog thing, just prefer spending a bit of time on forums like this where I know the users have the same interests as me and your almost guarenteed to pick up usefull info' that you can use rather than streams of kack that wastes 2hrs of your day.

Just my opinion and anyone who does the Blog thing - good luck to them, I'm not seeking the 15min of fame :smt002

A good advantage of facebook in my pinion is the ease of uploading photo albums i use it more for that than anything, i like to be able to show them to people with out having to carry them/my laptop around. But Some peopel spend hours on it and use it for convos etc. guess its just todays youth

at my age everyone seems to worship facebook and Bebo etc.

I admit I use msn alot but it has put me in touch with alot of bikers, some who I've since met and others I hope to meet soon. Its also good for just keeping an easy line of communication open with people(read friends) you don't want to totally lose touch with, but cant really be bothered to make a special effort to call or visit.

Blogs to me mean nothing, and while some are funny, well so is my proper life outside of the internet and I'd rather be seeing live ammusment at someone's expense (only in a light hearted way mind) than read online ammusement.

Its all good in moderation really, but facebook, wayne and etc. are just solutions to problems that I don't have. I haven't even got a mobile anymore (since december 06) but I don't struggle to keep in touch with people, and have yet to get into a scrape that I can not get out of without a mobile. Its so simple, you have a house number they ring it if you're in all well and good, if you're out well then you must already be doing something.

You mention about not having a phone, id like to do the same. Im on a contract at the moment which is costing me 20quid a month line rental, my calls barely scrape a fiver so im paying less than 25quid a month, im just starting to wonder weather its worth it? I doubt the girlfriend would like it very much especially when were on hols from uni as she likes to keep in touch throughout the day.

The last mobile I had was a tenner a month PAYG job with internet access, that was six years ago and I will never go back to one - suddenly my time is my own again :smt001

They are "Radio Rental" with mobile phones here - watch HD TV on a 2.6" screen !! :smt011 Pay for goods at shops cause it's also credit card, bit pants if you loose the fooker! :smt009 GPS is handy along with a MP3 player but for me a plain phone for business is all that's needed IMHO :smt018
