Lucys zxr400 had a zx6r engine in it, its been done a few times now, see here http://zxrworld.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2801 & you could get in touch with Lucy and ask who did the conversion as i believe she has the engineers report etc.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

true, configuration is different, but at least it's got to be pretty narrow - the bigger inline fours seem to be a very tight fit between the frame rails.
obv you'd have to think very hard before you did it, but I bet it's possible.

I've owned three VFR750's so far, and my current one which fronted a pack of pschos (friends) riding a Fireblade, SP-2, CBR600RR and R6 last Wednesday has done....
105,000 miles!!!
And of those 3 I've owned I have NEVER had to touch the engines!
I loved the ZXR to bits - but in the 3 years I owned that I had to work pretty damn hard to keep the thing running and on the road!
So I can't really think of a much better engine to slot in and forget about...
