cam chain tensioner lock bolt torque

bought a new tensioner put it in as discribed and fired her up sound so carryed on with the rest of the bike drive chain fairing etc till i came to the clutch cable forgot to but the mounting bracket on so undid the tentioner lock bolt then the mounting blots put bracket on then mountain bolts then finaly lock bolt torqed it to 6nm as in manual and when i started the bike it rattled :smt013 not bad but i can here it when i ride it passed its mot with it
if i tighten it up that bit more would it sort it or do i have to reset it what does everyone else torque it to?

First off a new tensioner will not compensate for a worn camchain. You need to replace a worn camchain

Secondly you should not over tighten any bolt beyond it's toqure setting.

The tensioner only works in one direction the spring in it applies tension and the ratchet mechinism stops it from backing off.

That is why you must reset it if you remove the tensioner because if you remove it the spring pushes all the way out then if you just bolt it back in the tensioner will NOT just back off. That will leave the camchain under too much tension and you'll end up with a very damaged engine.

I've said it before and I'll say it again now I really do wish I lived in reasonable travel distance of about 20/30 ZXR400 owners I could make a heathly living servicing and repairing

i rebuilt the whole engine and it was a new cam chain
