Intake pipes
I think we should do a pole on how many people like the super awesum air intake pipes on the zxr400 and old zx7r 's.
I love them think they look gorgeous even tho they look like a vacuum hose lol
Do they actually act as an Ram air intake ?

Part of the reason i bought a ZXR was because of the hoses. Im sure they have some function, doubt they would be there for nothing. Ive heard they they aid cooling of the head, also to provide additional air for the air box as the intake for the air box is right underneath. No idea if they are true, all i know is i like the hoses just as they are!

Ever noticed that your bike seems to be a little sharper on a cold morning ?
Cold air is denser and therefore for a given volume has more oxygen motorcycle engines like cold denser oxygen rich air
The hoover pipes help maintain a supply of that lovely cold dense air in the vicinity of the air intake.
They serve no ram air functon at all.
I once owned a ZXR750H2 the hoover pipes on it did not serve as ram air either.
I have seen ZXR400s with home made ram air intakes where the hoover pipes were directly plumbed into the airbox. I don't know how effective they were.
2 of my ZXRs have a replica of the kit airbox with a ram air inlet scoop that fits out through a gap cut in the radiator. The other one has a ram air box with an inlet scoop that is right in a slot cut in the front of the fairing.
I'm not so sure about the cooling the head theroy. None of my ZXRs have hoover pipes and I don't have overheating problems.

Dylans right.... well they serve no purpose realy on the ZXR400 althoe they must help a little but on the 750 they actually do work althoe not quite like a rem air system.
young lad goes to buy first bike he has to get a 400 so does he go for somethin that looks like a 400 or the replica (almost) of the 750.
plus they compliment the look of the bike an make it look like a mean machine.

Sorry Guys, but I can honestly say that I do not like the look of the intake pipes. I much prefer the sleek look of the tank without them.
It also makes the bike look more like one of its bigger brothers. This is even more so with my bike as it has the ZX10 fairings.
I have temporarily sealed the two holes in the tank. I am taking the bike on another track day on Sunday, so I will then be able to see if sealing-off the holes has made any difference to the performance or running temperature of the bike.
If it doesn't, then I am actually going to permanently weld mine closed and respray the tank.

well at the time, the hoover tubes made it look more like one of its bigger brothers.MonkeyBusiness wrote:It also makes the bike look more like one of its bigger brothers. This is even more so with my bike as it has the ZX10 fairings.
if kawasaki were to bring out a new "zx-4r" then I expect it would look very much like yours.

i think the problem is that most people would also ask for it to be 2/3 of the price of a 600, otherwise they will just buy the 6.
