HT leads

Post by Jackson »

Hopefully this will be a simple question for someone! Basically ive Been doing a bit of work on top end of an L4 and gonna be putting back together this week some point.

Was fiddling with the IC's and ht leads last night and pulled the spark plug end off one of the leads (the solid long L shape part that goes down into the plug recess) - initially i thought it was broke and need to buy some new leads but on inspection it looks like a threaded spike (basically a screw) coming out of the solid L piece which connectes to the lead?

Can these leads be taken on and off from the 'L' pieces? (i.e. if i screw it back in will it work?) or is it officially broken?

Cheers guys

All is fine mate, its how you replace the leads on a bike, you simply screw on and off the plug caps. :smt001

So just screw it back on and ride the thing :smt003

p.s. dunno if there's plenty of lead or not, but i usually cut about 5mm off the end of the HT to get a fresh end to screw onto.

Ahhh, thought that was it! :smt002

Used to working on car engines with silly sealed leads which usually need replacing when they split in 2! :smt017

Cheers for the info Rob

it's very annoying being used to car leads- you order a new one for your bike because the plug is cracked and shorting, and then they send you one without an end!
In the garage:
