Bolts.

Just checked Cradley for bolts to fit pillion hangers and tie handles, approx. £1.20 each, normally I will always go OEM but maybe not at this price. Don't mind paying for specials or one offs like the much discussed seat bolt, as the OEM stuff is quality and nicely finished.
I will not fit s/steel to a stress area but cannot seem to find any quality high tensile stuff, apart from Mr Kawasaki's finest.
I even considered titanium as each bolt definitely adds 1hp at the very least, they cost £6.00 each, NO FOOKING WAY.
So who's using what where, and from where? If you see what I mean?

Ive used stainless from stigs fasteners in the past but just for the panels.

Everything else was oem if it needed replacing.

Decided on the same route today, you know what you're getting, that it fits, is premium, and so easy to order from those wonderful Cradley people.
Although I will take issue with Mr Kawasaki regarding his carb screws, although P.O. may have went at them with a phillips head :smt013

I replaced all the carb bolts with cap heads, work fine and so much easier, ive got a load of the originals in my carb box aswell

Bag of 50 cap heads arrived yesterday, I have lots of spare carb screws here too, most with a hacksaw and chisel removal line on them, they were beyond the mystical power of JIS.

As far as I can remember, you can make a JIS by grinding the end off a standard Phillips, and majority of the stuff on a bike can be swapped for stainless steel, pillion footrests and tie handles will be fine with stainless, the stress on them is not tensile stress which they're measured in

I have a heady collection of JIS, being careful with that S , a Z could change the context BADLY, I would not trust s/steel on the pillion hangers etc, they could be fine, but I would have that nagging doubt, and it's someone's wellbeing I'd be gambling with.
I've ordered the OEM Kwak bolts, I'll check their marking and report back. Had to order a bolt for my old AR, holds the 2 stroke cover on, £6.00 or so, but I know it's made perfectly to take the side of the ignition key to remove it, OEM, the path of righteousness.

a little, but for the love of God how the fook does one remove the 8 carb bracket screws (splitting the carbs to replace all O rings), they are in good shape but I believe they've been tightened by Godzilla, soaked in carb cleaner, soaked in WD for 2 days now, might try introducing some heat.
I currently have another trapped nerve and am lacking in right arm torque. I don't want to start with the hacksaw and chisel, as the screw heads are good, they also cost £2.00 a pop. :smt013

I have tackled several sets of these screws, and experienced exactly the same problem with all of them - they are super tight. When trying to unfasten the first set I actually snapped the part of the carb containing the air screw (which I araldyted back on!). The best routine I devised was to clamp the carbs securely in a vice; smack each screw with a copper drift and heavy hammer; engage the screwdriver and put all my weight on it; use mole grips on the handle of the screwdriver to apply the torque abruptly. Even then, one screw refused to move, so the hammer and cold chisel had to be used to rotate it sufficiently to enable the screwdriver to remove it...and bin it!

Marked 7 which appears to indicate a strength class of 8.8, which is defo higher than s/s, seems to be a bit of a minefield. I'm glad I went OEM, saves any doubt.

im wondering about s/s now, ebay here I come and then to ask my 16 stone mate to sit on the back, that should be a good enough test!

you problems will come after your test when the now even further weakened bolts break with a 8 stone size 8 blonde babe with big tits gets on and something breaks before you even move off and she stomps off leaving you with an even harder problem to solve

Yes..........................................................................................and yes, your anthology of bolts through the ages, their types and uses, has been printed out and sits proudly in my garage, all 96 pages in a yellow folder. You are wrong on one thing though, dentists, I've just been after breaking a tooth and the lovely female assistant improved my tensile strength no end.
