Possible new car laws?
Hey guys i dont know if youve heard but the government are talking about putting the driving age up to 18 and making it so you cant drive between 10pm-5am without someone over 30 in your car for the first year of driving and possibly making it so you have to do 100 Hours worth of lessons before you can take your Test.
I was just wandering what your opinion is?
personally i think making everyone who passes there test regardless of age have a blackbox or something for the first 2 years would be better and i mean with 100 hours of lessons at an average of £24 a lessons thats £2400 Before youve even taken your test!
so what do u think?

Possible excuse for picking up a mature lady of the night, may stand up in court???josh94zz wrote:and making it so you cant drive between 10pm-5am without someone over 30 in your car
There are a few R drivers up and down my street, driving like twats, taking the bike out of the drive is always rather tense.
Although not all young drivers are bad, I was bloody brilliant.
The more training the better, but cost is always the issue, maybe they should address twats on phones driving, and people who are clearly too old to drive.
Oh and anyone in a people carrier.

Anything where training is given for a longer period before a license is dished out can only be a good thing. The same should be for those learning to ride a bike too if you ask me.

It makes sense and in the long run will be a good thing, but it just feels like the government is constantly telling us to bend over a d touch our toes while they do what they want

Re: Possible new car laws?
yeah great scheme get a blackbox fitted and they will know your every move...................mind you it would save on roundabout induced exhaust damage
while your at it why not have a wee microchip inserted in your neck and they'll tax you for sleeping, shagging and scraping exhausts

I think the black box thing is good to a point, id imagine it makes you conscious of what you are doing. But if people were trained properly to start with, then we wouldnt need to rely on them. They dont prevent accidents, they just tell you whats happened prior to one thats all, and that doesnt make up for anything to anyone whos been killed.

I think it's in Sweden or somewhere like that, they train new drivers by teaching them rally driving.
It's a good idea to a point because then you get to know the limits of a car. As far as I know it works as well they have much less fatalities on there roads plus they produced some amazing rally drivers.
Maybe not so much of a good idea in England though, can you imagine all those little chavs rallying around in beat up old fiestas
It's good to see the government actually trying to do something about it for a change.
There's been way too many young people die'ing on the roads round here lately.
I think the black box would be a good idea, gps/satnav knows the speed limits on the roads anyway so it wouldn't be hard for the little box to flag up the times when speed limits have been broken.
Then at the end of the year the data is uploaded to a website or maybe at a police station and they can assess whether or not they get to keep the license, sort of like probation for new drivers.
It would be hard to enforce though, loads of people are still driving without licenses, insurance tax and mot so why would they care about a black box.
It was only a few months ago a girl got knocked off her scooter and killed not far from here (Bournemouth), the driver was uninsured and he lived in Kent and did a runner.
The girl was knocked off and in the road when another van hit her afterwards and I think maybe another car hit her as well, not 100% sure about that
They caught the man from kent in the end, his girlfriend was so sickened by what he had done she stood up in court against him.
There was another accident a while back where some young lads parents went away and left him at home, he had just passed his test and him and his mate took his parents car out for a spin one night when while the parents were away.
They went to fast and lost control, hit a tree and the car caught fire killing them both.
So yes while they need to address young drivers they also need to look at other things as well, too many uninsured drivers out there that would flee the seen of an accident

Re: Possible new car laws?
the reason im having a blackbox is because i dont want to pay 2-3000 Pounds for insurance on a car worth 500 quid and it brings my insurance right down and gives me an Insentive to drive To road conditions (Not that i wouldnt anyway) but getting money back from the insurance is always good

Re: Possible new car laws?
Agreed, but very much depends on who's doing the training, my CBT guy told me he'd had a girl who'd been through CBT with a different instructor, but she did not have the confidence to ride on her own, he ran through his programme with her, she had not covered half the stuff he did.RedexRobB wrote:I think the black box thing is good to a point, id imagine it makes you conscious of what you are doing. Incidentally the other instructor was my second choice, lucky, he also charges three times the fees my guy charged, for basically half the course!!
My CBT guy covered everything, even crossing train lines, and he was so thorough he even made it rain for the six hours we were out, and I mean RAIN.

Raising the age to 18 has both good and bad points.
Atleast people, young spakkas, will have to spend a year on a 125 if they want their own transport...... giving them a bit more road sense.....
More fucking kids bombing about on peds with lids undone :/

Re: Possible new car laws?
At one point to do the intensive car tests where you do it in a week they wouldn't allow you in unless you had been a learner for over a year or had a moped or other bike, you can't teach road sense in a week. I think everyone should have to ride a bike for a year before doing there car test, that would definitely teach them road sense, the same as we have to. Car- car reverses out, you hit it, dent in front wing, little bit shocked but no other injuries. Bike- same scenario, hit car, fly over bonnet, possibly having broken your wrists first, hit the floor, you may or may not get up. I know people who have bought a 125cc ped to commute on and save petrol, they all turned round to me and other people who ride bikes and simply said "I dont know how you do it... its scary!" put everyone on a moped and it will definitely improve their road sense and observation

Re: Possible new car laws?
All CBT instructors should be motorbike cops, best riders, know all the dangers etc, and their heart will be in it.
With the carnage they must see, no way will they pass you, if you ain't ready.
Back in the day, at 17 I bought an AR80, insured it, and away I went, no training at all, except fooking around on my mate's MB5, (it had a micron, so it was bloody quick
) I must have been lucky or simply extremeley talented, definitely the latter, point being, not everyone has the God given riding talent that I've been blessed with, so to come even close to my stellar skills plenty of quality trainig is required.
BTW there is an element of irony here, Cargo will get this, my skills aren't stellar, simply awesome is a more apt description.
