Zxr 400 not starting off key

Hi all
I've just brought a zxr 400 what a animal !!
When I brought it I was told the regular needed changing so I' have done but now it won't start off the button and every time I press it a clicky noise comes from what sounds like under the seat.
Does anybody know what this could be ?
The bike started off the button when I brought it but now can only be started by bumping it

Have you checked the battery with a multimeter?

99% likely to be a dead starter motor relay, ebay for a pattern/second hand one, or a kawasaki dealer for an original.

^+1^ take of the left rear fairing panel, to do this you are going to remove up to 6 bolts (if they're all in there) 1 by the little cross hatch vent bit, 1 by the bottom of the rear seat, 1 under the rider seat, 2 under the pillion seat and one underneath by the rear light, you should then see the starter motor next to the battery (it attaches directly to the battery) and with an insulated screwdriver bridge the two connections (two wires attached by 10mm nuts). If the engine turns over it is the starter motor relay

it could well be the starter relay/solenoid.............................but I prepared to bet on a dodgy battery 99.99999999999999999999999% certain

Thanks for all the replys I'm getting a new battery tomorrow as this one seams to have had it, and I, hoping this will be the fix I'm pretty sure it will be I've spent all day today checking for bad connections, what's the best type of battery to get or is it just standard battery, I can't wait to get it running again so I can take her for a spin
