Hi all, im currently rebuilding an l model that I will be using to compete in ediasia f400 next season, have the head off ready to re-lap valves, measure springs and replace stem seals but what should i be checking bottom end wise? Is there a way of measuring rings to see if they're shot? Crank spins nice and free with no excessive movement on rods so will probably leave that alone. Is there anything else i should be checking while its apart?
Cheers
Alan

Re: rebuild help
The workshop manual will give details on how to measure piston ring wear. If in doubt, given its a race engine, I would just replace. Cost £100 or so, but in the big picture its not that much. Likewise check play in big ends with plastiguage. Overall just give everything a careful check, but it really depends on how far the tuning has been taken on the engine. The more power the more you need to take care of tolerances and so on.

Re: rebuild help
sorry should have specified im racing in sub64 class, engine will be near standard - base gasket just want it in good order without spending a fortune, putting more focus on suspension/brakes for my first season. will give the box a check over while its apart as well. been having a look at plastigauge, looks simple enough, got the tolerances off the manual on here so should be on my way to getting everything checked nowMax4music wrote:The workshop manual will give details on how to measure piston ring wear.
