Hi all,

My name is (Cameron) Fisher.
I live in Basingstoke Hampshire, and am 18, currently juggling college and semi-full time work in Wokingham as a contract administrator for a company that sells Xerox photocopiers.

I currently ride a Yamaha R125 and I run an owners club for it, which is very active.
There are about three owners club for this bike, long story, mine is the newest but now almost the most active.

I have been riding for about 8 or 9 months now, on my 125, and I finally got around to doing my full (restricted) bike license.
Passed all parts first time, which I was really chuffed about.

Despite only being on the road for only 8 or so months, I have done about 15,000 miles. I regularly go up to Ace Cafe, Loomies Cafe, Box Hill, and various other locations. Later on in the month, I am going up to the Peak District for a forum meet.

I am now looking to upgrade to something larger.
I was playing with the idea of getting a nearly new 600, but after seeing the insurance for them, I have decided something a bit older would make more sense. I can insure a ZXR400, 3PFT for the same as my 125.

I am going on Saturday to have a look at a ZXR400 in London, and if I like it, I will but it. Or rather, a friend of mine will buy it for me, and in return he gets my R125 for free. It's a funny way of going about it, but the two bikes are of equal value, and he needs it for his brother, and this makes logistics of getting my new bike easier.

Hello Cameron, nice intro, welcome to the forum.

Tip for you - pillion seats are like a car's spare wheel, they are to be used in emergency only. Keep people off them, they just mess up the handling. Girls should have their own bikes, not clutter up other people's.

Few on here might disagree, mind............

You really advise against it? Or you just saying you don't like riding with the excess weight on the back?

Here, let me start a shopping list for you.

Braided steel brake lines
Brake Levers
Double Bubble Screen
Race exhaust + pipes
Dyno run + rejetting

It's a 1994 bike, appears to be an official British model.
24k miles.
5 owners.
Partial service history (all the MOT certs, as well as a good deal of service reciepts).
Starts fine, and runs well, although now that I have had a chance to ride it for a couple days...

I have noticed a slight knocking noise occasionally, and the gears are rather clunky at times.
Also, at high revs, it feels a bit lumpy. Feels kind of like a limiter, but it does still keep accelerating.

I will change the oil, plugs, and do a general service.
And hopefully that will solve the most of it.
Will also get my mechanic to sync the carbs, and possibly do the valve clearances.

I paid £900 for it.

Generally it seems rather good condition, and it is nice to ride, so I am happy with it.

My Shopping list so far includes:

- New mirrors (the current original ones are a bit stiff and won't adjust. Bought a black pair brand new from fleabay from China for a tenner.
- A good hard service!
- some new brake lines (no idea how old these ones are...)
- A run on the dyno and some jetting.
- New levers, as the current original ones are starting to show their age as can be expected.

Which exhaust would you suggest?
I just noticed, there is a slight hole in my exhaust.

In all fairness, it is the original, and I believe rust is a common problem with the stocker?

Braided lines - get a 2 line setup AKA Race Setup.
Race' layouts are required by the ACU for twin caliper front brakes. Their regulations state that brake hoses should not be routed over the wheel, and specify that the lines must be joined above the top yoke. Our kits with 'Race' in the description have two lines from a double banjo at the master cylinder, with each line running to each caliper.

The pipes weigh a ton though.
On the 1st zxr i owned i had a MTC can and set of race pipes.
