Yep - did it this weekend - got rid of the Orange bib with a great weekend at the NEMRC meet at Knockhill. Ran the 400 in the Thunderbikes as well so managed 6 finishes. Bike going great, times coming down - even managed a few cunning overtakes - happy days

National licence by next August and then you can go do some proper racing and forget about those stupid glorified carparks like Knockhill

The master plan (if there is such a thing) is the Manx GP - next year might be a bit early (got to get rid of the Qualifier licence in time for the entry) but August 2011 is a definate target

SACU rules are 15 race finishes - which in reality is about a season of racing - I got my first signatures last October and naively thought that I would be done and dusted with the bib by June this year but hadnt allowed for engine blowups, electrical failures, clutch cable snapping, gear chagne falling off, and finally (and most irritatingly) running out of fuel.

Reachiing the end of a race is a bit of an achievement when you're a novice - its a steep learning curve and fast road riding (and even track days) just doesnt prepare you for it!!!!!!.

I think the rules are different for ACU - 10 finishes at at least 3 different tracks.

To compete in the Manx you MUST have held your national licence for 6 months prior to the start of practise for 2010 that means you need your licence by 20th Feburary 2010
For Manx GP 2011 you'll need that licence by 19th Feburary 2011
In both cases you will also need evidence of having competed in 6 events in the 13 months prior to 30th June in the year you plan to ride

For Irish road races you will need a national licence plus start permision and insurance from the ACU or SACU................it matters not how long you have held that licence.

If you race and you don't do the Manx you will regret it for the rest of your life and if you DO ride in the Manx you are very likely to be addicted for the rest of your life

Easy choice really

The SACU changed the rules this year and you can now do the Irish nationals on a qualifier license albeit restricted to the support classes. You still require the permission etc though.

Clearly there are some sensible people at the SACU
