Dear Competitor

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Manx Grand Prix in 2009, the most sporting races of the year and are very pleased to announce our new race programme which includes a Post Classic race which is the first one of its kind to be run on the TT Mountain Course. As this is the first year we have kept the Post Classic regulations as flexible as possible and after this year’s event they may be subject to change for 2010.

You may well have read about the changes to the eligibility for the Lightweight class which allows TT competitors and former MGP winners to compete and changes to the eligibility for the Ultra Lightweight, Junior and Senior Manx Grand Prix races.

Due to the escalating costs of running the event, including postage we are encouraging all competitors to download the regulations, entry and other forms. On our website (http://www.manxgrandprix.org) you will find a copy of the 2009 MGP Supplementary Regulations, Entry Form, ACU Mountain Course Licence Form, Press Form and various other forms for completion. However if you have any problems downloading and printing the forms, please contact us and they will be posted to you.

Some very important information we would appreciate you taking note of is as follows;

§ The final closing date for entries is Saturday 13 June

§ Entry forms received at our office after Friday 2 May will automatically incur a surcharge of £25.00. Modern, Classic & Post Classic Newcomers will be exempt from this surcharge

§ Where we can we will send you an email to confirm your entry has been received by us.

§ Once received, we will notify you as soon as we can if your entry has been accepted or held in abeyance. Details of Steam Packet discount for competitors will be sent with our confirmation of acceptance.

§ All entries are subject to the issuing of a Mountain Course Licence by the ACU.

§ The Mountain Course Licence application form on the website must be completed and returned to the ACU, at the address shown on the form. The closing date for a licence application is 14 July and you must ensure the form and 6 sets of results are received by the ACU prior to that date as they will not accept late entries. The issue of such a licence by the ACU does not guarantee your acceptance into the event.

Finally, please visit our website http://www.manxgrandprix.org and keep up to date with the latest news regarding the 2009 Manx Grand Prix. You can read about the recent successful visits by some of our enthusiastic MGP Ambassadors and 38 potential Newcomers, supported by the Mike Hailwood Foundation and still one more visit to come!

Ask me again in 12 months time :smt002

Im not 100% sure on the new rules tho.
I think that the new forgotten era class is great. Allowing the super fast boys in is what im not sure about. Sure it will bring the profile up, which is superb, but wont guy martin and the like just whip everyones arrse, and make it almost imposible for everyone else racing on a shoestring to get a replica?

I think the survival of the mgp should be the main priority so hopefully this change will work.
what do you think Cargo?

Having been pit monkey to my mate who would love to have enough budget to afford a shoestring, we were quite happy for him to get his first replica last year, so no I don't think it's impossible, justy bloody hard.

I imagine you could turn up on some impressive machinery for a reasonble price in the forgotten era class, it's the reliability that's the big thing to get right.

aye, but it will be different this year. If guy martin rides that heron suzuki, which will be fkin smart and im going!, but he will no doubt be pushin a 120 lap. Im not sure of the percentage of the winning rider it is to get a replica, but not many 'amateur' riders will get close enough.
Im sure they have it all sorted tho, and if not this year, tweak it for the year after.

It is a sad fact that in this commericial world the only way to draw a bigger crowd to the Manx is to have bigger "names" riding. Especially when the truth is that the Manx provides closer more exciting racing wth a much greater varity of racing that any other race meeting on the IOM or elsewhere.

Jake....................I know it's maybe a bit of a struggle for you but could you not consider giving the Manx a shot this year ?

I'm going accross on the 8th May for 2 nights I know you are not too far from the ferry and airport would you like to join us for a weekend even if you still only want to consider doing the Manx in 2011 a trip over now would still bring benefits. I have at least one MGP winner lined up to show newcomers round and have plans for a night out with other MGP riders.

The only real cost is your travel...............PM me for more
