Carb setup

Hi im running a bb plastics ramair box with cv carbs i was wondering if use could point me in the right direction as far as carb set up cheers leon. Oh its a l model.

blocked air correctors (discussed in a few previous threads)
108-110 jets (keihin numbers)
yamaha R1 needles

should get you somewhere in the ballpark.. just make sure your carbs are the proper 32mm jobbies not the 30mm restricted badgers that a lot of L's came with (they look identical.. and share a part number .. its sneaky)

internal diameter of the carb body as viewed from the engine side.

i think the plate bellmouths work too, worth looking into.
carefull with the yamaha needles, as they are not cheap( if you can find some), and you have to have the right ones. even then, they need other work so they dont make your fueling worse. :smt002

I there 32mm, would this set up work with std needles? I lifted mine with small washers.

Hi Leon. I have a spare set of plate bellmouths if you need them. I possibly have a spare set of Dynojet needles as well, but would need to look them out.

I'm thinking of getting a ram air kit for my 'H', is this the same setup?

Rather than use R1 needles surely the right type of needle is available from Allens who seem to have jets and needles for every type of carb. Are the R1 needles thinner?

I once put a ramair kit on a CBR400 with CV carbs and the mains had to be changed from 110 to 163 on the dyno to get a good setup so I'm surprised you only need 108 -110?

anyone know what is the main air corrector and what method do you use to block it? Ive been looking on the site but cant see any info on it cheers leon.

Araldite is the best option Leon. When you look at the intake side of the carbs you will see 2 brass jets sticking out just below the main air intake. The air corrector is the one on the top as you look at them.

Cheers again colin, you out this year? Im going to do kdmc and try and do mmc aswell. Inoticed you said about the dynojet needles, do they make a big difference?

The Dynojet needles just allow you a bit more adjustment for the lower end of the rev scale, but worthwhile using standard needles first as they may well do the trick and save you a £100!!

I am doing the KDMC meets and prob just one East Fortune as I want to do a few English circuits. Have applied for the NW200 again and hoping to do the Knockhill round of the British. Just gagging to get going!!!

Hi Colin, are they running a 400 race at the NW? I read somewhere that it was being dropped this year. Let us know if you hear anything. Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve. They have done away with the 400 :smt009 I am entering on the 600. They claim that reduced entries for the 400 class has caused them to cancel it.
