which aftermarket shocks are recommended ? best avoided ? value for money ? etc etc ..

and of course .. why ?

its good, but then again, i wouldnt be able to tell you if its any better/worse than the others, cos ive never ridden a bike with any of them on it.

Well on this side of the pond you'd need to add Penske. I have one on both my race bikes. Comparable to Ohlins shocks...

Ive tried the maxton and the ohlins on the zxr, and i like the ohlins better.
Ive got a wp on the roadbike and that is very very nice.. maybe just a bit better than the ohlins i think

Penske voted for, one thing I like is that they are easy to work on, changing springs is a breeze. It's relatively simple to swap out parts.

a K1-K3 rear shock fits, i understand its pretty good too but the adjusters dont show a difference quite like the more expensive alternatives.

I've got a maxton revalved standard shock on my L1 that i might swap out for an all singing all g alternative. The H1 has a K1 shock in it.

HM Racing are recommending the Nitron shock, it's made for the 400. Rather than use an Ohlins that made for the 600 and converted.

I take it you mean suzuki gsxr K1-K3?

Has anyone got any of the above on a road bike? I've been toying with the idea of a better than standard one, but seeing has they're designed for racing in mind i'm worried they will be too stiff for the road, or is that something that's adjusted easily? To me the standard one feels quite hard but it could be it's just past its best.

the ohlins and the wp ive got, are almost too adjustable. Unlike standard bits of kit, adjustments make a big difference, so you will find a good setting for the road and your style no probs. expensive touch for the road tho

The standard shocks are way too stiff for racing and I understand that they are even a tad hard for the road. They are designed for carrying a pillion as well . Generally a racing zxr shock will be set up much softer than a standrad one

That makes sense now you say it, for some reason I thought it was the other way around. Might look into the basic (cheeper) emulsion ones.

Another query;
Does anyone know the length of the standard shock? Apparently the WP one that fits is 322-332 (mm?)
