how do you identify which cams are which. i have a couple of pairs of cams but the inlet cams are different one has more lift than the other from the back of the journal to the top of the lobe of the cam, would there be any part nos. or other identifying marks on them?
edited to add that i dont really mean journal you know what i mean

No marks or part numbers on them, just a difference in lift. SP cam will have an adjustable cam wheel.
From memory SP's, H & L1's have the same lift & profile. Lift over base circle is roughly 5.86mm from memory.

cheers for the info.
so it seems as through i may have a set of h cams and also a set of later l cams with not as much lift, as the cams i'm currently running have more lift than the spare ones, would these h cams work well with a ported head, and what would be a resonable jet to start with on this setup carbs are cvk 32mm not really for racing just for a bit more on the road, mates all have r6's r1's etc. i know im never gonna do anything near there power but in the twisties i can hold my own

Its not so much what cam will or wont work as they both will work. It depends on the timing of the cams on how they will work. This along with exhaust & airbox configuration will affect your jetting. I have seen zxr's run a main jet from 86 through to 150. Its not an general thing. Start with what you have, ride & listen.
Do a plug chop & you can generally get a good idea about the jetting. A dyno with an A/F meter will save alot of time & mucking about. Plugs with unleaded fuel can be a little harder to read. search the NGK site there is some good information there.
