Zx7r probs

sorry to use your forum for my 7 baz but i get more joy here than on the zx7r website. no offence.

quick run down. zx7r. got an immobiliser of sorts. dunno what make. apparently its wired in thru the engine. whatever. i dunno. went out today , gave it some throttle and the horn beeped once. just a blip. mile down the road, it starts misfiring. did it once b 4 but cleared up and got me 270 miles home. didnt clear this time. it got that bad it cut out. would start on the button, idle ( wont rev ) for 2-3 secs then cut out. left it a while, it started and was mega lumpy, kept it about 6-7 thou and lumped it home. sounded like running on 2-3 cylinders. no backfiring. just wouldnt accelerate and bogged down.

then it clears for a sec and shoots off only to start dragging again.

its on reserve but there is good fuel in it. water maybe? i dont think so cos when it did it before it was almost full.

any ideas guys. im fairly sure its electrical due to the horn beeping for no reason. also at times it wont start on the button if lights are on. not often but it has. also, once it would start on the button at all. i reset the immobiliser and it started.

tbh its not a branded immob so im thinking to remove it and get another. it is one of them round button keyfob activated ones.

any help would be great guys. its the only transport i have and i need it spot on.

sorry for hijacking your site baz.

Im never going to fit and alarm/imobiliser to any of my bikes ever again after the one i had on my 7 went wrong. If your not too bothered about not having it on there then take it off and see how it goes.

yea. how do i remove it tho. its fucking ancient thing in a metal case. i dont wanna start chopping wires etc until im sure which wire to chop. the bloke i got the bike off said its wired into the engine or summat? is that possible?

and another quicky rob, when u drain the tank and carbs and put in fresh fual do you have to bleed the system. i made sure fuel was in the bowls as i open up the drain hole to make sure?

I don't think any bleeding is necessary, it would simply be as if you had run out of fuel, so stick more fuel in and off you go.

As for the immobiliser I think the whole point of them is being wired into the engine...(i think :smt017 )
And i also don't think they're particularly easy to get off, if they were they wouldn't be very effective security devices!!
Having said that my experience of immobilisers is with cars (my parents cars, i've not been trying to nick any)
And even with cars, they seem to be so damn effective that even the man with the key can't start the damn thing :pmsl

sorry been away. Yes its simply is a case of doing exactly what you described. He probably meant loom rather than engine. Glad to hear you got it fixed :)
