Hey guys,
A new problem that has developed today - basically when I come to a stop for lights etc... the bike is rev-ving really high (3,000) same in neutral - however if i let the clutch out a bit to just before the biting point the revs drop back down to about 1,000 as they normally are in this situation
Any ideas ???

intake air leak or weak idle mixture, most likely a leak though.. its common on these bikes.
check and reseal the balance pipes, and the inlet stubs where the carbs sit in.

Have you had the carbs off? Does it settle back to idle eventually? without using the clutch? That usually indicates air leaking in at the inlet rubbers.

baz and me checked the mixture when i first got it a month or so ago, but its run fine since then, and didnt need altering at the time

take a look round mate, make sure the balancer pipes (just below the carbs on the back of the block) are all on as Zimm said, and check the inlet rubbers are all sealed up ok by making sure the clamps are tight. If still no joy then might be time to get new inlet rubbers.
I think you can check if the rubbers themselves are leaking by spraying carb cleaner across the inlets with the engine running. If the revs die/slow down (cant quite remember) then they are leaking.

i just take the carbs off, degrease both the carb and the inside of the rubber, then a tiny smear of HT silicon inside the rubber and pop the carbs back on, seals 'em up a a treat.
