Lost revs & power, cut out. (Also, hot starting woes...)

Heading along the A4 earlier, I suddenly found that I had no power in top, so I dropped it down a gear, found no power there, dropped it again and the revs started dropping away, and kept doing so right down through the box, with me giving it fistfuls of throttle, to no avail.
Any ideas guys?
Plus, she doesn't like starting when she's warm, so you can chalk me up to that one, too.

possibly the restrictors making it run a bit rich

Nope, it's all good, I figured out what it was... I forgot to turn the fuel tap.
