having trouble with my 400 still, the bike still wont start... is there any locals who would kindly lend a hand in sortin it out with me? coz im completely stumped on it.

Make a list of exactly what you've done, whats happening (/not happenng).

got new coils fitted, had a bit of a prob fitting them though:

old HT leads were marked 1 2 3 and 4 (1 being the longest and 4's shortest) but the new ones are reversed, so 4 is the longest and 1 is the shortest... so not sure if i got em the right way around or not - will add pics tomorrow.

but the way i have connected them all up now, bike seems to turn over a lot quicker than the other ways i have connected it up so im guessin this is the right way around?

but she still doesnt tick over.

was goin through on the bike earlier though .. petrol is gettin to the carbs ... but the plugs are bone dry black and they are deffinately sparking, so its either wrong coils on the wrong bike or the timing sequence is wrong.

Are the plug leads coming out of the from the left cdi going to cylinder 3 +4, and the right going to 1 + 2?

when you say it wont tickover is it actually firing up but wont tickover or do you mean it wont even fire?

right the coil that serves cylinders 1 & 4 needs a red and a green wire going to it and the right numbered spark plug thingy put in the right hole. the coil that serves cylinders 2 & 3 needs a black and a green wire connecting to it and the right numbered spark plug thingys put in the right hole. it should fire 1,2,3,4 then...

the leads are linked up to the right postition.

thing is the coils i have are bigger than the ones that were in the bike in the first place, also in reply to dans - i only have 1 green 1 black and 2 reds.

so your not using the original coils then??

bigger coild should give you a bigger spark providing they are getting the right signal in the first place and are the correct voltage, not 6v are they and you've blown em?

original coils were fine, the HT leads were wrecked after fittin Spitfire Multisparks on them, and didnt know where to find replacement leads.

as for blowin the new ones... how would i be able to tell? im deffinately gettin a spark from them.

youll need a digital multimeter to measure the resistances, but youll also need to know what to measure where and what measurements you should be getting. The manuals state where these are and what they should be but if your not using the originals then its irrelevant.

Have you tried putting the HT leads from these other coils onto the originals?

cant take the leads out of the new coils.

The coils he is using at the moment arent the originals, and im assuming they aren't from another ZXR400 as he said they are larger coils. So whatever the manual states that the values should be, they only refer to the coils used on the ZXR400, not any coil off any bike.

If he knows what bike the coils came from, then he could find out what the tests results should be and check.

Should be able to get some HT lead from Halfords or even your local bike shop.

Put the old HT leads on and see what happens.
