Hi there, I have a lovely 1992 zxr and it has been sitting in my garage for a a month or so, where I have been periodically starting it up and going through the rev range to keep it "warmed up" but I went out to it yesterday and it won't start!
I have charged the battery and chucked in an extra fiver of high octane fuel, but now although you can here the starter clicking it isn't catching - does any one have any ideas what I should/could be looking at!?
Any help appreciated!

Is the clicking noise the clicking of the relay or the clicking of the starter motor?
Sounds like the battery might have died and theres not enough juice to turn it over. When you start the bike it absolutely slaugters a battery, but it usually gets a good charge while you ride it after starting, it sitting there reving doesnt really charge the battery properly. How long did you put the battery on charge for? Might need a good slow overnight charge. Or see if it bump starts and take it for a ride up the motorway.

stick some jump leads on it see if it goes then, but as robB says your kill the battery starting it and not running it especially in this cold weather, a hard cold frost can kill any battery overnight.

ZXR 400 batteries are small and a sealed type.
They do not like to be discharged and are very hard to recover from deep discharge
You also need to use a trickle type charger. Optimate or similiar
Over charging with a car or high output charger will warp the plates in the battery and while you think you've charged it it will in fact be flat.
Use a volt meter to test your battery. It should be at least 12.5V much less than this and you will have starting problems.

Okay have tried - jump starting the bike and it's no use, I'm thinking of selling it so really need to get this sorted!
Any other ideas for what it could be?
Any one in the Bimingham area fancy taking a butchers at it for me?
There's a good drink in it for anyone who is willing to help me out!

Probably need some smaller croc clips. Simply connect positive to positive and negative to negative and get your car started, then try and start your bike
