Looks nice but runs like a dog...

Hi,

As you all know I've overhauled my 1992 ZXR400.

I'm having a few issues with the engine. The bike will not go over 10,000rpm, sometimes holds an idle sometimes not, and i'm only getting 120 miles to tank. When I rebuilt the bike I changed everything over to uk specs loom, clock, cdi, lights, switchgear etc...

The carbs are still the same when I took the bike apart, infact I didn't touch them aprt from a quite balance. I'm starting to wonder if the plugs are duff or the coil caps that I added are fooked or not really good for high rpm.

Any ideas?

Regards

Rich

Hi,

Oh yeah thats the exact CDI I got and was running perfect before the rebuild so I cant see it being that.

I've bought some new plugs to see if that makes any difference.

There might be some sort of restrictor on the back of the clocks a small black box. I'm sure I heard something about that.

I would have said it might have been the CDI unit! I only normally get about that out of a tank and that is when its running rich.

With the UK CDI it wouldnt restrict to 10k as they havent got them. It usually the CDI's from other markets.

iddleing problems usually point to air leaks in the carburation system or carbs need cleaning properly, 10,000 rpm max may also point to this or a blocked air filter, if not that its restricted somehow, my bike is a uk model so never had any restricter on it revs til the limmiter comes in winks
