Starting & Rev issues

Hi all,

I picked up my L1 about 4 months ago and striped her down, cleaned and resprayed... she is now back together but I often have issues starting her up... pumping the choke half a dozen times helps slightly beford firing her up... seems like a fueling issue??? Once I get her started I have to make sure she is warmed up before attempting to take off the choke. She is sometimes really boggy when taking it out for a ride... sometimes not able to get her above 5-6K, other times she flies.

I have cleaned and replaced carbs and rings etc, adjusted float heights to 12mm, mixture screws out to 2 1/2 turns, new air filter.... fuel filter looks ok, Redexed, I've been thinking it was a fueling issue so checked the fuel pump and that works... tested the relay but not sure if I did this right as I don't have a 1 Ohm so I just used a 2 Ohm option on the multimeter with no reading.... but she does run so I don't know if this is the issue or not.

Carb balance is next.. just gotta get hold of some gauges... the air box vibrates quite a bit so wondering if this could be the main cause of all that is slow!

Frustrating as she is so close to getting back on the road... any help is appreciated,

Many thanks in advance.

amazing what carb balancing does to the bike, get some gauges and let us know how it goes from there.

I actually called up the local garage yesterday... he wanted £120 just to balance the carbs :wanker

What guages would you guys recommend as I have looked these up n' there is a couple of options out there?... any idea on cost? I'll be needing to get this done soon so I'll let ya know how she goes from there.

you can go cheap and get dual gauges or pay the extra and get 4 dials, usually around £20-40 or go the whole hog and get a morgan carbtune 11 (my preference) about £70

garages usually charge about £35 for carb balancing so they are ripping you off!

as baz says really, 20-40 quid for some gauges and about an hour doing it yourself, 120 quid is taking the piss to be honest. Heres my write up:
