Hi i've nearly finished overhauling my zxr but i still can't get the headlights to work. My bikes an import and should come on with the ignition i think. I've had the wiring loom apart and cleaned all the connections or re soldered them where needed. I've also tried a different switchgear and a new relay. i'm stumped and the only think i can think of is the ignition barrel but don't really wanna have to fork out for one to find its not the problem. Is there any test i can perform? Please help i've only passed my test a few weeks ago and really wanna get on the bike. Also my exhaust seems to rattle a bit where the four pipes come into one is there a flap in there or something? Thanks Daz

do you have a light switch on the right hand switchgear? if not then the lights should come on with the ignition.
the rattle in the exhaust is probably a small pinhole where the collectors meet, its prone to collecting water and rotting, have a probe around with a screwdriver but don't blame me if it falls apart.

Have you got a multimeter?
Best thing i can suggest is get hold of the wiring diagram and trace the wiring back from the headlight and through each of the components (switch gear, connecter blocks etc...) till you get something. I think theres a specific diagram for the lighting system in the manual so that will make it alot easier to fault find.
Id like to bet that its a corroded terminal crimp in the loom somewhere, as had a similar problem on lewis' bike where the pass beam didnt work and the wire had corroded and snapped.

yeah i've had the loom in bits and i mean completely stripped down and checked everything. I'll have a look at the diagram and see nothing works though i have no dip main or pass switch? Cheers Daz

I think he has, as he posted previously.
I remember another member (leanne_zxr) had the exact same problem with hers, never got it sorted as far as i know. On the plus side, someone recebtly posted that an import loom was only 170 quid new, so maybe an option?

Hi guys i got it sorted thanks to the wiring diagram i traced the wires back and it turned out to be a fault in the fuse box itself so i put another on and its fine. Hopefully i can get it MOT'd soon as i get a new screen and mirrors and get to some meets.

nice one for getting it sorted! Its easier to fault find than you think, just takes a bit of confidence.
