Rear light staying on

Sometimes when i turn my bike off and put the steering lock on, the rear light turns itself back on.

Is this normal? If so why does it do it? (someone said it might be a parking brake)

Normally i just turn the ignition on and off again and the light stays off. Sometimes i have to do it over and over again.

Is there a way to get it to come on and a way to get it to stay off?

Thanks

Mikkel

There are two positions for the steering lock; turn the key ALL the way (to the 'p')and the rear light SHOULD come on (manual says it is a 'parking' light, but this will run your battery down quickly) turn the key only partially (to the 'lock') will simply lock the steering and the light wont come on :smt001

Ah! That answers that question. I merely presumed it was doing that because my ignition barrel is shot to toad.
