Hi all.

I’ve been away on work for a while and my mate was looking after me motorbike I went to start my motorbike the other day just wouldn’t start I then took the battery out and it was bone dry I refilled it with distilled water and charged it up.

The multi reader was reading 11.75 volts this morning I put it on the bike before and still wouldn't start it made the attempt to start but no joy the headlights and indicators are working fine.

Cheers Mike.

Sounds like you just need a new battery mate. If its been sat for a while and its dried up then its been deeply discharged and chances are your not gonna save it, so new battery is in order i reckon.

How long did the bike sit unused.......................

Did your mate keep the battery charged................and what type of charger did he use ?

Given that the battery was "bone dry" I'd guess that he used a car type charger and the battery was seriously over charged thats why the battery was dry.............it's likely that the plates are both warped and sulphated.............................IE your battery is fooked.

A freshly charged battery should be reading 12.8 or maybe even more your was 11.75..................... is as dead as dodo

I left the bike with me mate in May and I returned back from work commitments in October I’m not too sure whether it has been started up etc. I will invest in a new battery when I’m back home in 2 weeks time.

Then I’ll be putting it for sale within the next 3 months due to moving abroad for 2 years don't want to really sell it but there's no reliability on anyone looking after it for me.

Thanks for your help. I’ll let you know how I get on with the new battery.
