iv put the loom back into my bike, I got it all conected up and then tryed to turn the engine over from the starter button. the clock lights and fuel pump started to work but the motor did not turn the engine over. iv not had much to do with electrics so if any one has any ideas it would be a great help. Thanks

Did the carbs come off?
How long did you try it for?
Fuel tap turned on?
enough fuel in the tank?

as cansa is alluding to, it can take 20-30 seconds of cranking to get the bike started with no fuel in the carbs.

whoops...sorry, read it wrong.

if you want to diagnose electrical faults you will need a multimeter, that way you can check if its a wiring fault, or a duff starter motor.

Yea the bikes not turning :( but the other stuff works. its just not turning the starter motor on the button. I know the starter motor is ok because it turns the engine over if i short the solenoid. iv also changed the solenoid becasue i had this kind of problem before so impritty sure thats ok too. its got me very confused :smt013

blimey ...

sounds like the same problem i think skullie's having with his ..

there's a relay in the fusebox (called junction box in the manual) if this dies you get everything except activation of the starter motor off the button as the bike becomes paranoid and behaves as if its in gear with the stand down and you havent pulled the clutch in. afaik its not repairable.. but a new fuse (junction) box should sort it.

ok iv put a whole new loom in and checked the voltage from the battery. iv also put a new switch gear on thinking that maybe this was the problem. Iv got the loom all connected up and its doing exactly the same thing as it did with the old loom in :/ im realy running out of ideas naw

Is the starter relay clicking when you try to turn it over?

and did you change the junction box as suggested?

there are only a few things which connect to the starter motor...

have you taken a multimeter and checked all the connections coming from the battery for the ignition system?

will the bike bump start? have you considered that thestarter motor might be knackered...might be good to post a list of the things you have changed as opposed to saying "everything".
