This is the first time i've bled my brakes, I bought a kit and have followed every step on the instructions.

After bleeding them, there is no pressure on the brake lever whatsoever, however the brake fluid resevoir is filled to where it should be.

Any ideas?

How did it instruct you to do it in the instructions? My method is to remove the lines at the calipers, put the ends in the brake reservoir which is filled with fluid and pump, you will see bubbles come out as you prime the lines, then carefully remove and put on the brakes and bleed through either using an ezibleed tube with a one way valve or the old fashioned way, for some information use this

Yeah it must be in my method here's what I did- (as instructed by the kit)

1. Put pipe over bleed nipple on calliper
2. Loosen nipple by half a turn
3. Pump until air bubbles stop
4. Tighten nipple with the lever held in

Does this seem alright?

Sometimes that way air will get stuck in certain places in the brake system e.g. Brake master cylinder, has it got a one way valve on it? On those things I find it better to hold it upright to get the air to travel up the tube as sometimes it gets sucked back inside

Ive always used a vaccum kit to bleed my brakes. Never had a spongy lever that way.

I think the issue you have with that method is not closing the nipple before you let go of the lever. Chances are thats sucking the fluid back in that has air in it.

Put the bike on the side stand and have the bars on full left lock when bleeding brakes.
It stops air getting trapped in the master cylinder.
