Removing Wheel Bearings

I've had the wheels off to fit new tyres so I decided to give them a paint and change the bearings too. All good until it came to getting the old bearings out. What a pig of a job, I gave up and left the wheels with a mate who's taking them to be pressed for me. Any tips for getting them out in future?

Fronts are knackered, rears are ok.
I looked through old posts which suggested it wasn't a difficult DIY job but wish I hadnt had a go now!

easy enough to do thats for sure. Strip, take out giant circlips, use a long drift and knock out old, install new ones.

Aaaaand - up!
Wheel bearings for the rear wheel of an L model ZXR 400. What type are they?
(N.B: I'm kind of hoping that someone will tell me M208, 9208 or 6208s, as I've got a box of steel caged FAG 6208s sitting on top of my wardrobe!)
Also, the Sprocket Carrier Bearing, if anyone would be so kind.
