Why the hell do i have a 120/70 front tyre when the specs and all that i found was 120/60? And this size is mentioned in the papers/documents. oldman

Becasue some one decided to fit a 120/70

that and the fact that 120/70 is an easilly obtained race tyre.........and is in fact a huge improvment on the 120/60

like it's not rocket sicence zxr400 have been around for a long time now and people do change tyres from time to time

Stupid question really

Not really a stupid question. It is the japanese model, but i don't think this has anything with it. As I said, the manual tells us that we need 120/60 - front tire. Mine is 120/70. The original papers have no signs on them (if someone changed the tire, this would have appeared under the Modifications column, and would still show the original tire size), and if this was modified i guess i wouldn't have posted here...

So, please think a little before slaming someone with various words :)

I think Cargo has 'thought' and hasn't got a clue what you're on about. And neither have I, so that makes two of us 'slaming you with various words' (whatever that means). :ffs

OK, I use the standard 120/60

Bare in mind that the 60 is a % of the width so a 70 will make the tyre taller giving quicker "tip in " advantageous for racers as they are in an out like superman shagging wonder woman :smt002

I also like a fast tip in but I have gained this from fitting a L Ohlins shock to the bike which has raised the back end - same effect , most likely more !

If you like how your bike handles with it's current tyre - keep using that size, simples !

If you find the bike lazy and have a 60 profile get a 70 next time

If you find the bike to sharp in bends & have a 70 get a 60 next time

If your neither of the above and some where in between your fecked ! Superman will be around some time soon :pmsl

MM!

yup nice one mate, im shopping around at the moment, just umming and arring what to get, im intrigued by the Maxxis Diamonds, but i might look at getting some part worn Dunlop 209's/Qualifiers .. not too sure what to get at the moment, if i get part worns then i might get 2 pairs if i can

I wouldn't. Don't like the feel of any Dunlop tyre, they don't inspire confidence in me at all. Maxxis are something you fit to a bike you are about to flog. How long do you think those little diamond pattern things are going to last? What happens to the grip then? If it goes tits up then your tyre is going to last no time at all. If it makes no difference when it's worn out then it's a gimmick.

Pirellis or Bridgestones.

fair point, i've always got on with dunlops, i have 209 rear and qualifier front at the moment, but have always ridden with qualifiers on all my bikes with no problems at all, have had some nice lean angles on them in the dry and wet, also get some decent mileage aswell

Never really looked at anything else other than dunlop

Having just changed from a 120/70 front to a 120/60, I find the bike tips in fast enough with the 120/60 for any corner i have come across. Also makes the bike feel a lot more stable mid corner. I found the 120/70 felt jittery at high speed and didn't give me any confidence at mid lean.

I've always run mine with a 120/60. I've seen a lot of people say that they have a 120/70 on it but personally I think tyres are very subjective. If something works for you don't change it. I have no problem with a 120/60 so have never seen any reason to change it.

A 120/70 will also make the speedo under-read. Not that that matters to Cargo and company :smt002
