sp engine swap

i have been offered a h model sp engine but i have a l1 just wondered if i need to change any thing or is it a straight swap? a mate of mine said ide need to get the carbs rejetted or something like that, any help is greatly appreciated. cheers doug

hi there.
the main differences on the sp engine are the cams and pick up, (and the gearbox but that won't affect the running).
if you do the swap into the l model, you'll need to take the timing pick up off and put an l model one on (it has 1185, i'm sure thats the number?? stamped on it) the one off your l engine will do, this will make it work with the standard cdi.
you probably would have to get it set up on the carbs, i'm not sure how the cams would affect the jetting, as i've only ever swapped and changed tuned race engines.

p.s the 1st gear on the h model is taller than a tall thing.....it seems to take a lot of revs and clutch slipping to get them off from a standing start.
