Hi, is the left hand side engine cover (with ZXR on it) filled with oil or can I take it off?

Thanks,
Matt

damn it, thought so.

I want to respray it. Is it ok to drain all oil out into clean tray then replace same oil afterwards or what? Oil is new, been in for 400 miles or so.

OK before I actually do it, will that actually work???

Don't say yes if it don't coz I gotta sell this bike now and don't want it breaking!

Do you mean like actually put the bike on it's side or just lean it to the right??

Thanks,
Matt

Yes lean the bike on its side even for days it will not hurt

Just dont snap the fairing so rest it on the handle bars and footrest with a axle stand or similar to take the weight off then just undo the cover and the oil should run back down into the sump or at worst just away from the edge of the cover

Any one else wont to add to this

Im pretty sure oil will not come out if leant over enough i used a tool box when i changed my clutch plates on the other side just placed the box under the footrest and gave it a few minutes then undone the cover and replaced what ever then placed back on

At worst you might need to replace the GASKET mate

Hope that helps

Alright, will give it a go tomorrow. Probably will take fairings off so no chance of them braking, most of them off anyway atm.

Will make sure it aint being supported by weak fairing mounts.

Can I get away with silicone sealant if the gaskets bugggard?

I would say no as if it does leaks when your out riding could be a big
kick in the head

But yes you can use sealant but make sure its a good sealant
and you have cleaned both surfaces from grease and oil and dont use loads and dont overtighten the bolts as a gasket would take up some slack not sure what using a sealant would do if once compressed you might and state might strip a thread

Take your time and i would use a Gasket

if u have to strip the thing why not get a gasket. that way u are sure of a good repair

whats the clearance between the cover and flywheel? if its tight then fit a gasket or the bloody flywheel will be on the cover.

think i would rather drain the oil and remove the cover than risk dropping the bike on its side! :smt103

Dont be a chicken throw it on its side it only holds 3 ltrs

Must be the racer in me ( throw in on its side )

Be fine mate just slowly down on its side with a breeze block or similar item under the foot peg be fine and dandy

Your find the handle bars will wont to drop so just use a bit of wood to hold them up as the weight pushes down on the front you could even just push the bike up agaisnt a wall or something so doesnt move forward

Easy but if it needs a oil change drop it SILKOLENE 10w 40 road oil used it for 5 years in my race engines cheap and works

but don't lean it over with a full tank, and check the coolant resevoir afterward for losses

you can use rice crispie ceral box for the gasket on the generator cover, much cheaper than buying one.
