difficulties at gear changes

Hello,
I'm the owner of one ZXR400 '92 and i'm experiencing a trouble with gear box, It is difficult to lock in (???) the gear when bike isn' t moving. You have either to tease a little bit the clutch or to roll down the bike a few inche just to lock in the gear. Any idea about what troubleshooting ??
