ENGINE WENT BANG

Just bought a ZXR400 (think its an L3 on a 1993) model, it sounded like it had a cam chain rattle/incorrect valve clearances etc.

Anyway got it home after doing a round trip of 550 miles, started it up!

Only firing on 2 cyclinders which explained the rattling, anyway I got the other 2 cyclinders working (could tell by the sound of the exhaust and no rattle - and all 4 pipes were hot) it went bang and immediatley stopped.

Turned engine over by hand and imagine that the socket bar was at 12oclock, it would turn to 6 oclock then stop again, back to 12oclock then stop again.

I think its dropped a valve and bent it, cams and chain still look ok and so do the valves (from taking off the rocker cover) just wondering now if its someting at the bottom end like a bolt sheared :smt013

Will post a video on you tube of my findings and let you know what I find it was.

NOT A HAPPY BUNNY :smt010

Dont know yet, I am going to take the head off tonight.
I think the valve has stuck into the head.

Although this is a disaster as it happend more or less as soon as we got the bike home, I am glad it did it stood still rather than it doing it whilst my partner had been riding as I think it would have spat her off.

Anyway I will video taking the head off so that everyone can see what a broken valve looks like.

Head is off and 2 valves are broken, 1 of them is embedded into the head.

Hole in piston.

Cant be bothered with this engine so on the look out for a 1993 ZXR400 Full engine or a cylinder head (then I will be bothered with it)
