Cam Chain Tensioner

Have bought myself a ZXR400 L7

bit of a problem slight rattling when i start it the person i bought it from said its the problem with the cam chain tensioner does anyway know how much this would cost to get fixed?

if the tensioner is physically broken then its not too much money, but its difficult to change it properly.

however if your bike is rattling because the cam chain is at full extension then you will need a lot more parts and the cost will go up, and its not advisable to ride it like that, if it skips a tooth you are gonna destroy valves/pistons.

recently replaced the cam chain tensioner since i renewed the cam chain 2 months ago. my question is how likely is it that cam chain has slipped since the tensioner has been taken out? even though the engine was not turned over or spun?

no idea, but best not to chance it, take the head off and the timing cover and check for the correct number of links (30 i think) between the two timing marks on the cams.

with the crank on the T mark, the two timing marks on the cams should be facing away from each other and be on the same "imaginary line".
