Engine rebuild

Hey guys, Winter is approaching and I was wondering if anyone has done a full engine rebuild. I've stripped down and rebuilt my race engine but only really done the head gasket and a few little things. I definitely need to change the gear changing shaft as its kinda bent! Could anyone hazard a guess of how much it will cost in parts to do the main things on the engine? Been quoted by my local Kawasaki garage £300 for man hours but if I talk to the manager then he might be able to do me a deal.
Thanks

How long is a piece of string ?
Depends on how much you want to do in the engine and what you find once it's apart.......
You can replace the gear change shaft easy with engine still in frame if need be.
You need to consider replacing.............
big ends ?
mains bearings ?
cam chain ?
rings ?
pistons ?
rods ?
valves ? valve stem oil seals ?
output shaft oil seal ?
gear change oil seal ?
Cam hain tensioner ?
cam chain guides ?
The list could be endless...............
£300 for labour seems ok........that about £30 and hour for 10 hours................I reckon I'd do it for less

Lol its probably a stupid question to start off with! I know you prob would but its getting it out to you lol. How would you go about changing the gear shaft without removing the engine?????
Just wondering if anyone maybe knew of any garages that were good and might do a deal?? I plan on using it for racing next year so if anyones got some contacts for doing that sort of thing that would be very helpful?
