Bike turning over but taking ages to start,any ideas

could be old fuel........poor spark......low voltage to CDI........

have new plugs in,new battery,new fuel not sure what it could be

have you drained the float bowls just to be sure. Have you checked fuel pump is working, check for spark at the plug.

is it only from cold?or from hot and cold?what happens if you put choke on?is it just something thats happened over night or after work being done?carbs taken apart or something?

its from cold haven't started it in few days,put choke on and its the same.was ok before.

you can take all the plugs out and put them in the leads and lean them against the engine and turn it over and you should see them spark, be careful not to get a shock though it will certainly wake you up.

Are the carbs reasonably balanced or could they be "miles out"? I cant remember the history to this but isnt this a bike you recently got with a load of problems. If so then it is possible that carb balancing hasnt been done for a while/ if ever

If all the obvious things are OK (fuel, fuel pump, plugs, battery, sparks) then a common cause of difficult starting is very poor carb balance - however - balancing the carbs is only something that can be done when its running so it really is a last resort

Yeah just seems like having alot of problems with this bike,i'm getting restrictor kit on it this weekend sadly but will get mechanic to have a good look over the bike while he's there

just out of intrest did you get your starting problem sorted?

seems to have sorted itself out,hasn't happened for awhile.

Think i now no was wrong but i could be wrong.I have been leaving the petrol tap on and think its flooding the carbs so struggling to start first time and when it does there's a very strong smell of petrol.Could this be the problem.

I never turn my petrol tap off, didnt know you were supposed to? Mine starts almost straight away, doesnt even need the choke

i dont think leaving the tap to on will flood the carbs as it has to go through the pump before it gets to the carbs and the pump only works with engine running and when the carbs need filling up so it wont just flow through and fill them up.
